Snowing in Seattle

I setup a live weather/traffic cam at my home here in the bottom of Wallingford facing down 34th at Fremont.  Check it out, watch the snow, see the people slip and fall, and watch the cars spin out!

Croft Salad

Ok, so this Salad is actually, somewhere under there, the Ranch Crispy Chicken Salad at the Red Door.  The Blue Flavor guys call it “Crack Salad” but the extra ranch version that Jeff made here with a side of White Russian I am tempted to call this particular version the “Croft Salad” as described by Steven Ray.

Gifts for User Experience Geeks

I thought I would put together a very short list of items I have come across that would make the ideal gifts for user experience geeks like Information Architects, Usability Specialists, Interaction Designers, and even Web Designers.  Hope you like it.  If you notice something not on my list let me know and I’ll add it!

Where to vote

A short tribute to the volunteer nature of our citizens on election day.

Nick’s top 5 personal websites

As some of you may know I am entering the process of redesigning my personal site, no not a re-alignment, a full redesign this time.  In thinking about the site’s architecture and design I thought it would be good to hire someone else to do the work as I feel I am too close to the subject matter to offer an objective eye.  With that came the notion of communicating to the designer what qualities make up a good personal/speaker website.  So I did some searching and found my five favorite personal/speaker web sites, these are the results.

Teeth for sale

Continuing with my series on random emails I thought I should include this one that came in via the main contact form on Blue Flavor’s website.  So, no it wasn’t directed at me on my personal site but I think it would be good to share.  I am not to sure what to make of the email.  Perhaps this person sees a huge demand in tiger, bull, or shark teeth at web design firms.  Perhaps there is a new voodoo service that I am unaware of that other agencies are offering… who knows.. but the email makes for a good laugh.

Rain or Wine: The Aftermath

My kitchen was becoming overwhelmed with wine so I decided to throw a wine tasting party with 30 of my good Seattle friends.  I called it "Rain or Wine" in anticipation of the weather that October weekend.  The turnout for the event was good, perhaps too good for my tiny one bedroom condo.  We had cheese; morbier, camembert, humboldt fog, mimolette, blue, gouda, jack and swiss.  We had meats; salame, genoa and prosciutto.  We also had apple, honey, fig, chocolate & bruschetta for pairing.  I had several bottles of wine and some guests brought wine… 22 bottles and they drank damn near every one!

Why is giving back so hard?  Why are so few doing it?

I normally wouldn’t post this type of thing but I feel it has to be said.  I am tired, I am exhausted of trying to be the nice guy to help out those in the industry and getting nothing in return.  And I don’t mean getting something for myself, I mean getting anything even for someone else who really needs it.

Burglary Spree in Fremont

For the past several months there has been a major burglary spree going on in Fremont.  Some of the local media has been covering the story but business owners remain in the dark about the happenings withing their neighborhood and in some cases right next door.  So I thought I would post about it to help expose the problem and hopefully prompt other business owners to be more proactive in securing their offices.

R.I.P. Monstero

I just heard on the news that Monstero was the victim of arson of some sort… its sad to see art destroyed.

T-Shirts I own

So, some of my friend have noticed I have a specific t-shirt collection as of late.  Here are links to the ones I own, in order by date purchased or received. You guess the theme…

Gary Vaynerchuk responds… to everyone

Gary Vaynerchuk, one of the most passionate social marketing guys I will probably ever meet, explains his strategy in dealing with the signal to noise ratio in blogs, email, IM, twitter, and in general communication from the community at large.

Getting Stuff Done…. on Facebook?!

An interesting application that links Getting Things Done (GTD) with Facebook… who would have thought that you could be productive using Facebook?!

Pants on Fire

Continuing with my series on random emails I thought it would be good to include this one.  Tho it doesn’t fit exactly into the rules of the randomness of emails I get, this one was intended for me regardless of how unqualified I am on the subject matter here… the qualified person being a pyrotechnical specialist.

War Dogs

So I have decided to create a new area on my blog that captures some of the crazy emails I get.  It’s hard to tell if they are legit or jokes.  Nevertheless, I thought my readers would get a good kick out of reading them.  Here goes the first one… War Dogs.

Moving over to Expression Engine

If this site looks like it is broken, that is because it is.  I am in the process of transitioning over to Expression Engine so right now things may be a bit chaotic until I am done.  Some of the design may be out of wack, the URLs will be messed up, some pages may be flat out missing.  Hang in there, I’ll have it fixed as soon as I can.
